US Presidential Election vote "fraud"
Recently, Joe Biden has been elected 46th president of the United States of America in a landslide victory against former President Donald Trump. However, in proper Trump fashion, Biden’s victory has given rise to much political turmoil. This is a direct result of the fact that, upon receiving news of the virtual certainty that the election has been lost, Trump began an offensive of baseless accusations of vote fraud. Most reputable media outlets and legal experts referred to Trump’s claims as being “outlandish” and based on “unsubstantiated evidence”. Regardless, the Trump campaign launched a series of lawsuits in an effort to save the lost cause that was his goal of a second term as US president.
The Trump campaign began by demanding a recount of the votes in some of the important swing states. However, to no avail, as states such as Wisconsin demanded nearly $8 million paid up front in order to begin the partial recount process. Resultingly, a series of lawsuits in six states followed led by Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who has equally been involved in his share of scandals throughout Trump’s presidency. As can be expected, Trump’s supporters blindly accepted all his claims resulting in a fair share of popular approval throughout his main electorate. However, all of Trump’s campaign’s legal challenges have proved to be a disaster in court as judges unvaryingly rejected claims of vote fraud. It was held that the accusations were baseless especially in light of the campaign’s “amateurish” legal work.
Regardless, Trump has unequivocally stated that he will ‘never concede’ and has signalled a continuous focus on his political future. Fortunately, now that claims of vote fraud have been entirely discredited, the General Services Administration indicated that the transfer of power to President-elect Joe Biden will begin. Although this process has been triggered upon the recommendation of President Trump, it has been implied that the situation does not amount to a concession. Realisation throughout the Trump campaign that the war is over has been widespread as most of his aides no longer argue that there is a realistic possibility of victory for Trump.
The events that have occurred throughout the Presidential elections in the US directly attest to the sad reality of current politics. Fake news and outrageous claims are pushed through to people at a scarily fast rate and on a mass scale with no repercussions whatsoever. Fortunately, as Trump is no longer a head of state, his ability to promote the dissemination of such information will be significantly hindered. This is because Twitter, which is his main channel for spreading outlandish ideas, does not offer civilians the protection to post whatever they want regardless of its validity in the way that it does with heads of state. Effectively, after four arduous years, the citizens of the US will finally be blessed with a different president and a more sensible Twitter feed.
